Hydrolised Collagen Protein Supplementation for the Treatment of Injury
Hydrolised Collagen Protein is gelatine extracted from the bones and hides of animals that is treated with an enzyme to make it easier to digest and readily dissolved in cold water. There are marine and bovine sourced products available. The marine variety has marginally greater quantity of active ingredients but price is prohibitive. In medicinal dosage for short periods (days/weeks) when recovering from soft tissue and joint injury Collagen is like a wonder drug. In its absence, injury can linger for months and not fully resolve. Particularly as we age.
We have been afflicted by an insidious form of malnutrition with the loss of the stockpot on the stove and introduction flat pack meat displays at the supermarket...we do not want to pay for bone we are just going to throw away. The best source of gelatine is from the bone and hide of animals. I'm guessing too, it is the missing ingredient in the treatment of osteoporosis. Bones have much calcium but also a large component of connective tissue that forms the tensile reinforcing matrix complimenting the compressive strength of the mineral substrate. TCM will be pointing at Kidney condition too in relation to bones and major joints.
The active ingredients required by the body for building connective tissue to strengthen its structure and heal injury are amino acids Glycine, Proline and Hydroxyproline. These are in abundant quantity in Collagen but in minute quantity or missing altogether from other protein sources.
Caution: Being pure protein, users need to be cognisant of overall protein intake and associated limitations; particularly where Kidney condition is poor. Seek medical advice.
